You reveal a part of the process here of creating and then how editing works as the secondary but essential part. I will be reading again from the beginning because you are so worth the time, the effort, the force of "the word."

Thank you, Mary, for that attention. The whole enterprise quickly turned into so much more than I initially had in mind -- a handful of related essays. I then realize after I'm already writing and publishing that I'm primed at this moment in my life to make of it something more ambitious, then, still later, that earlier work is relevant to what I now have in mind --yet I've already begun. So the element of developing the work in view of a readership becomes an even greater element of the "experiment" than I imagined.

They are very different projects from each other, but it occurs to me that when you were originally live blogging (Re)Making Love, which you later published as a book, you were going through at least some of the same process. Of course, in your case, even the narrative line and ending were unknown even to you!
