Homo Vitruvius and its obstreperous younger sibling, American Samizdat, retire from public view for the holiday so that HV may complete his labors on the next chapter of Reason for Being in the World: “Burn the Boats.” I hope you will all find it a compelling conclusion to that part of the memoir devoted to my father’s life. For now, thank you to those several paid subscribers who this week renewed their annual subscriptions. At the one-year mark of going paid, they number among my first paid supporters, and the renewal of that support is a boon to my creative spirit. You know who you are: truly, thank you. May I close by suggesting that Labor Day is a brilliant day to reward a writer for his labor? (Oh, what I did there.) What you get for your support is detailed in my last posting, “Recap and Return,” but what it returns to me is beyond description. The button is just below. Happy holiday to all.
Poet’s work
By Lorine Niedecker
Grandfather
advised me:
Learn a trade
I learned
to sit at desk
and condense
No layoff
from this
condensery
Aways looking forward and had not read that poem. So, thank you, Jay.
Mary, I discovered it in a search, in which I also found this stunner.
