Homo Vitruvius had a very short gestation period. It was created almost from impulse.

It all began with the cultural trainwreck of Twitter. I’d been on Twitter since my blogging days back in the 2000s. It was my primary social media account all the years since, though increasingly a love-hate engagement. When Elon Musk acquired it, with all I knew he was sure to bring and do to it, I immediately deactivated my account. I tried out a few other social media platforms, but you know how it goes: there was no rise in the blood, no zip and zing in the conversation. The chemistry isn’t there.

In the meantime, I had also only recently been managing the Twitter account for my partner, Julia, who favors, as do many photographers, Instagram and even Facebook. I intended to deactivate her account too, but didn’t get around to it, and started using it just to read on Twitter – to keep up with favored news and current affairs sources who so far remained there.

One late night in bed on my phone (TMI?) …
