Dear readers, friends:
I’m sending this New Year’s Eve greeting to conclude my first calendar year writing Homo Vitruvius on Substack. I thought, in thanking you all for reading and subscribing, I'd share a tradition and a vision of mine, and just a little bit of news of what’s upcoming.
The tradition is that over our 28 years together, it has been a practice for me and photographer Julia Dean (antagonist of our bedsheets, protagonist of my heart -- she's my SO, significant other, I'm her SOB) always to try to get away somewhere for the New Year. Sometimes it's foreign travel: Mexico, Cuba -- you see us here arriving, in younger incarnations, to Venice's Piazza San Marco for the inaugural seconds of the Third Millennium CE. (And I know what you're thinking: that's some beaming jewel of a smile on the lass! It is! And I get it every morning. :)
